Elements of Community Mutuality
- LLC staff/community/volunteers are committed to connecting Learners and their families with the resources they need in order to heal from the traumas they have encountered in their personal lives and to collectively transform the conditions in which they live.
- Resources and power are redistributed to promote social cohesion and agency.
- The wellbeing of each person in the community is interdependent with all others, and it is mutually beneficial to work with each other to ensure that everyone’s needs are met.
- Learners forge cross-generational relationships— learning from the elders in the community and serving as role models for the youth who may follow in their footsteps.
- Accountability to self and accountability to community are fostered, rather than conformity and coercion.
