The #StudentsNotSuspects campaign began at Central High School - Mar Vista Gardens and included many different partners and workshops over years.
We launched a successful district-wide #StudentsNotSuspects campaign, 2014-2020, to end random searches that criminalized tens of thousands of BIPOC, queer, trans, immigrant, and disabled youth in Los Angeles. Learners at MVG partnered with Youth Justice Coalition, Students Deserve, BLM-LA Youth Vanguard, ACLU, Public Counsel, UTLA, and many more. We got hands-on experience with a number of organizations, developing skills in community organizing, media advocacy, persuasive writing, public speaking, and video production.
